Todays Craft; Bird Seed Feeder

Original date of this was: February 20, 2012

I have been strolling along on Pinterest for a few months now and I’ve come
across so many great craft ideas. One was for these cute little bird seed shapes
you can hang anywhere in your yard. I thought these would be an easy and fun
craft to do with the kids. Last years pop bottle feeder was mostly a bust, so I
hope these turn out well. Yesterday my daughter and I decided to make
them. After making the mix we both went around trying to figure out what we
would use for shapes lol guess I should have thought this threw a little better
then i did.  We ended up using Easter cookie cutters, measuring cups and a star
cookie cutter from Christmas time.

Recipe used:
1 oz Gelatin
3cups Birdseed
1 cup Boiling Water
Molds
Yarn or string (for hanging loops)
Stir gelatin in boiling water until it is all dissolved. Mix in birdseed. I added the seed into the mold that I had laid out on wax paper so it didn’t stick to anything. I Cut strings for the hanging loops, knot one end and stick the knot into each seed cake. Cover the knot with a little birdseed mix and press a little to make sure it will set firmly. I didn’t have a full box of the gelatin so I used just the two packs i had left and I also added a little peanut butter to the mix. We let the molds sit overnight to make sure they stuck together.

My daughter went out today and hung most of them out in the backyard. We will save the others for out front on another day. Now we hopefully will get to see the birds eating from them. If I can I’ll get a picture of one.

Today (Feb. 21 2012) as I was washing my hands in the kitchen sink I was looking out the window and noticed birds were actually eating from my daughters feeders! I was so excited and wished she was home to see them. I quickly grabbed my camera and zoomed in to capture the birds for her

There were about 3 different kinds of birds that I noticed.

I had to go outside  and try to get a clearer photo. The zooming in about 8 times I was afraid wouldn't turn out.

They still were not looking as bright as the pictures I had taken yesterday of my daughter hanging them up. So I tried getting up close and I waited and waited and waited lol I think they new I was there. No matter how still i was no more came to this feeder. I dont know how long I was out there trying to capture the perfect up close photo lol but I got cold and decided to give up. Not to bad though on the ones I did get and cant wait to show them to my little girl.
